Core idea and architecture The core of NthLink is a link abstraction layer that enumerates available paths between endpoints (wired, wireless, VPN tunnels, or virtual overlays) and exposes them to a flow manager. The flow manager applies policies and telemetry to pick the nth path for each traffic flow. Components typically include: - Path discovery: continuous probing and measurement to maintain a ranked set of candidate routes. - Flow mapping: hashing or policy rules that map traffic to a selected path to avoid packet reordering. - Adaptive scheduler: adjusts distribution of traffic among paths based on latency, bandwidth, congestion, and cost signals. - Feedback loop: telemetry feeds into decisions for failover and rebalancing. Use cases NthLink suits many modern scenarios: multi-homed enterprise WANs that combine MPLS, internet, and LTE; mobile devices that switch among Wi‑Fi and cellular interfaces; edge computing where local and cloud routes coexist; and overlay networks in cloud-native deployments where VNFs and microservices require robust connectivity. NthLink can also enable incremental migration to software-defined networking (SDN) by abstracting path choice from underlying hardware.
